Foundations of Nursing Skills Lab

The Nursing Skills Lab (Nurs 100Y) provides a base of knowledge and psychomotor skills that are common to the practice of nursing in acute care settings. General principles underlying psychomotor skills or nursing procedures are emphasized. Students are to implement and adapt performance to ensure compliance in diverse health care settings by adhering to agency policies and/or procedures. In addition, nursing skills lab integrates the following concepts: application of the nursing process, standard precautions, consideration of client uniqueness and rights, professional interactions, ongoing client teaching, legal implications, risk-benefit considerations, cost-effectiveness, and documentation.

Nursing Health Information Technology

This course is an introduction to health information systems and informatics concepts encountered in healthcare settings. The course is designed to enable students to use information management and patient care technologies to deliver safe and effective care to diverse patient populations in a variety of settings. Students will explore the nurse’s role in implementing advanced technology and identifying the impact of health information systems.

Nursing 451:

Nursing Health Information Technology Fieldwork

This course is designed to provide a mentored nursing informatics practicum that offers the opportunity to integrate knowledge of nursing with the application of health care information technology and informatics. Learning needs are identified and personal objectives are negotiated with a mentor, emphasizing preparation for the role of the nurse in the health IT environment. Students will have a “hands-on” experience in healthcare information technology while working with a mentor. Practicum seminars focus on current issues in healthcare technology and implementation and management of technology in a variety of healthcare environments.

Nursing 490: Senior Portfolio

The senior nursing portfolio project is a purposeful collection of materials that communicates the student’s academic and professional development throughout the RN-BSN program. The portfolio is designed to foster student empowerment through analysis and critique of one’s own work and self-awareness through reflection and self-evaluation. It serves as a method of measuring achievement of course and program outcomes.

Bellevue College RN Refresher Program:

Nursing Skills Lab

The Nursing Skills Lab component of the RN Refresher Program is designed to give students an opportunity to review and practice skills they may not have performed in some time. Among student in this program there is some variation in the amount of nursing experience, type of experience and amount of time since practicing nursing. Therefore some students may require more practice and review time than others. The student will be the best judge of how much review and practice of nursing skills you will require.
